Radical Empathy: wendy.network's New Open Art Call

Dear community,

We’re looking forward to our call for artists framing the topic of:

RADICAL EMPATHY.

Why did we choose this topic and where does it come from?

As you may know, the KONJUNGATE project is based on my cyber novel MACHFELD, written in 1999. One of the main characters of this book is Wendy, a fascinating person, who works as an agent for Satoshi NAKAMOTO. On the one hand, she is smart and full of empathy for the cultural conflicts of different extra-galactic forms of life – which is a central part of the novel – and on the other hand, she has a secret job to do that goes against her personal convictions. In addition, she is the eponym of our network.

Open Call 'AR art in Instagram filters'

MMMAD Madrid’s Urban Digital Art Festival together with Goethe-Institut Madrid and LABA School of Art, Design & New Media launch the I Open Call for artistic projects in AR through Instagram filters.
“Our way of perceiving the digital world has changed radically in the last year. Telecommuting, online classes, streaming platforms, shopping or social networks make us spend more and more hours in front of our screens. Devices are already an indispensable part of us, both our bodies and the space around us are altered from the digital constructing new dimensions of the sensitive field. The physical and digital worlds are getting closer and closer.

Art Gene is seeking a Digital Artist with an interest in curation to produce a series of online exhibitions or events, including a digital exhibition of your own work, as part of Art Gene’s Extreme Views programme. 

Digital U is Art Gene’s online exhibition space, sat within Art Genes website, offering an opportunity for artists working in digital media, including film, animation, performance, and sound. Since the Renaissance period the concept of frame itself has been a reference to the idea of a window that opens to external worlds, to others, and to what is beyond reality. With the invention of the photographic medium, and cinematography later, the first virtual reality constructions come to be. These are capable of involving the recipient / spectator in a more participatory way thanks to an aesthetic and narrative arrangement that favors a direct, and at the same time illusory, experience of a specular real world.
