IRA GENERANS
CALL FOR ARTISTS 2024 − DEADLINE 15TH SEPTEMBER 2024
spazioSERRA invites artists and collectives to conceive a new site-specific project for the next exhibition season.
The title IRA GENERANS aims to reflect on anger as a necessary and natural reaction to injustices and oppressions—
whether social or personal—as fuel for change and daily transformation. It invites artists and collectives to legitimize it
through their artistic practice, interacting with the specificities of an ever-changing exhibition space that daily gathers
the perceptions of multiple emotions, stories, and sensations.

Art. 1 - PURPOSE
The purpose of the call for proposals is to select artists to create solo and/or group exhibitions for the 2025 exhibition
season of spazioSERRA, entitled IRA GENERANS.
For this exhibition season, the aim is to address themes related to anger, not as an emotion to be suppressed, but as
a legitimate response to situations of injustice, frustration, or obstacles. Anger is seen as a driving force that
generates self-awareness and awareness of the surrounding world, a motor that propels the (re)discovery of a
primitive and primordial response. Reclaiming anger, therefore, means using it as an impetus for change.
The artist, or collective of artists, by applying to the following open call will be able to choose autonomously how to
interpret the theme explained above and explored in more detail within Annex C.

Art. 2 - PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
The call is open to all contemporary artists, individual or collectives, of any country and origin over the age of 18 and
aims to select a maximum number of 5 proposals, one of which will be linked to a residency and research project on
the territory related to the theme of the call (terms specified in Annex C).
spazioSERRA is a non-profit social promotion association, which operates with the aim of providing opportunities for
contemporary artists: for this reason, participation in the call is subject to membership at a cost of €10,00 for artists
under 35 and to the payment of a donation of €25,00 (membership cost included) for those born before January 1,
1989, which will cover the space's ordinary running costs.
To make the payment, applicants will have to make a transaction on the PayPal account info.spazioserra@gmail.com
(family and fiends) or via a bank transfer in the name of SPAZIOSERRA APS
IBAN: IT08L0501801600000017246554
With reason for payment: Call for proposals spazioSERRA 2024 - First Name Last Name/Collective name
*In the case of collectives, the oldest member is required to pay the fee as indicated above, the other members are
required to pay an additional €2/person (spazioSERRA membership), to be paid all in a single transaction.

Art. 3 - TERMS AND MODALITIES

Documentation received through channels other than the one identified above will not be considered.
The work or project submitted must be unpublished, under penalty of exclusion.
Any language of the visual arts is allowed, with no constraints on techniques.
Incompleteness of the documentation or data in it will result in the inability to have one's application evaluated.

Projects will be evaluated taking into account criteria of quality and originality of proposals, the degree of site-
specificity and adherence to the theme.

Art. 4 - THE FINAL EXHIBITION
The artist, after passing all the selection stages, will be contacted by email by spazioSERRA for the planning and
organization of a solo or group exhibition in all its parts and modalities. The resources of spazioSERRA will be
dedicated to the research of the artist and his or her exhibition, which must be relevant to the theme of the call, under
penalty of exclusion from the selection. The project will be curated, communicated and managed by spazioSERRA,
which will ensure maximum visibility in the various dissemination channels. The set-up, exhibition and dismantling
phases will occupy the space for a duration of no more than two months: the artist's presence is required for its
installation, vernissage, dismantling and any finissage and related events.
For projects submitted in the "territory research" section, it is emphasized that the exhibition may take place in
locations outside the physical space of spazioSERRA. For further details, refer to Annex C.
Art. 5 - THE SPACE AND THE JURY
spazioSERRA is a non-profit exhibition space that was created with the aim of enhancing the Milan area through the
work of artists, in a place, the suburban one, not dedicated to art, where art becomes an accident.

sides and on the opposite side there are two sliding windows that can be opened only during the presence of the
artist or the collective. The space features five neon lights on the ceiling. The works in the space can be of any type,
shape and material, but must take into account health regulations and the safety of the viewers. The space is
