Open Call | "Jukebox of Dissonance" Exhibition

Industry:

Eligibility:

Since its establishment two years ago, Underground Art and Design (UAAD) has embraced an inclusive vision, striving to deeply understand, encompass, and unite the diverse voices of artists. Held in collaboration with the Li Tang Community, Jukebox of Dissonance serves as an exhibition and a bold statement about the transformative power of creativity. It reflects our belief in the cohesion of the art community and an open, inclusive philosophy toward audience participation and selection.

At the frontier of digital culture, Jukebox of Dissonance crackles with the voltage of change. Here, a playlist of subversive art and visionary ideas flows like electric rivers, where minds clash and merge in creative chaos—birthing a powerhouse of innovation. In this thoughtfully curated jukebox, we mix genres, shatter norms, and awaken slumbering senses through this event. Adopting an open selection process, we invite outstanding artists from both the UAAD and Li Tang communities to submit their work. We sincerely welcome emerging artists to participate in this exhibition, regardless of medium, subject matter, form, genre, or concept. With Jukebox of Dissonance as our theme, community dialogue as our measure, and audience participation as our cornerstone, we aspire to create an open space that provokes challenging and meaningful conversations.

Through this exhibition, we aim to showcase the diversity and complexity inherent in artistic creation, emphasizing the importance of diverse artistic expressions and audience interaction. We anticipate that each viewer will find resonance and inspiration within this dialogue, experiencing the interplay and collisions between different artworks. The collaboration between UAAD and Li Tang supports emerging artists and diverse cultures, and explores the profound dialogue between art and community. We aim to foster interaction between art and society, ignite new creative sparks, and bring forth more possibilities for the future development of art.

(This exhibition is part of UAAD's celebration of their second-anniversary festival. For more festival events, please check the festival website.)

Jury

Amy Jiang is the Founder of Underground Art And Design (UAAD), a media platform and creative studio based in New York and Shanghai, dedicated to empowering change-provoking artists and designers. A narrative weaver—her curation projects and publications are dedicated to bringing together people and their stories, ideas, and works that would challenge dominant power structures and unlock pathways for provocative/ actionable strategies toward a more equitable future rich in empathy and symbiotic relationships. Graduated from the MFA Transdisciplinary Design Program at Parsons The New School, her practice is to shift Design away from being the tool of extractive capitalism, back to the human ingenuity that prioritizes planetary symbiosis.

Suki Violet Su is a New York & Shanghai-based Creative Director and visual Artist. She specializes in branding and CGI content. As an Eastern surrealist who grew up in China’s largest immigrant city and has traveled extensively, Su has explored themes of human belonging, cultural commonalities, and the tension between Eastern and Western visual narratives. She seeks to strike a balance between the burgeoning world of new media metaverse and traditional culture graphics, she delves into the resonance of human souls and the regulations of the universe, the definition of gender, and various cultural sentiments.
