Emotive Creators - Emotional Awareness Artists’ Residency

Goa, India, 25th Oct - 23rd Nov 2017.

3-6 artists (couples accepted) are invited to book India’s first emotional awareness residency to experience a one-month long unique program of creative arts process, personalised mentoring, one-to-one and group support; facilitated by three international highly qualified and experienced professionals specialising in the arts, plus personal and professional self development and empowerment.

We invite you to dwell in the diverse and life-changing Indian/Portuguese state; by coming to stay in a stunning villa with all the required amenities on the island of Corjuem, near the picturesque village of Aldona. You’ll be professionally and personally supported in immersing yourself in Goa’s rich landscape, arts and cultures; plus mingle with some local creative individuals. Unplug your mind, soul, heart and art practice. Enter a journey into the multiple layers of your being; as you are guided by two highly qualified emotional wellness professionals (a psychologists and a psychotherapist) plus a professionally trained awareness curator of distinct practice.

In collaboration with PEPPINA art, TATVA Center is passionate about changing the way we experience ourselves, our lives and art; as we invite visual artists from around the world. Your medium can be as diverse as painting, photography, performance, dance, multi-media, music, filmmaking, design, illustration, writing, theory, poetry, and any other creative disciplinarians. We don’t like to steer artists into any particular artistic thematic direction; therefore we welcome artists who draw inspiration from anything ranging from human rights, philosophy, activism, nature, cultures and the environment.

The uniqueness of this residency will appeal to artists who wish to broaden their practice in a more social and emotional way by exploring theoretical discourses; as a way to become more consciously aware of their interior and their place in the world, thus increasing their overall well-being and creativity.

The artists participating will be part of a small community, joining with the professionals, who will all shape the heart of a wide-ranging and imaginative program to the participants needs. We will explore emotional and social awareness and learn ways in which these can be translated into the art practice, through a combination of experimental workshops, guided mentoring, emotional support and expressive art processes in group and one-to-one frameworks.

The residency offers a safe and comfortable environment for artists to allow for identity exploration, self-expression, emotional and creative processing. By nurturing and supporting the artists in a respectful, ethical and confidential way; the team helps the artists develop an understanding of their meaning and purpose, their role as an artist and how they cope with and reflect on every-day challenges and current affairs.

In a quest to reveal the voice of intuition and promote inspiration, the team will help the artists to facilitate doing things with passion and purpose; plus accumulate a way to not only see, feel and think differently but to change the way we experience life through art.

"The work that's happening here is the most incredible work that I see in the mental health space…..I think that both the process of art making and the process of therapy are linked, and that it's about taking a break from the rest of he world, to check out, and to just explore how I feel.” - Alok Vaid-Menon is a performance artist who spent a week at TATVA Center.

The Residency Program:

  • Creative Arts Process in groups and Personalised Artists Mentoring with Katharina Domscheit-D’souza.
  • One-to-one and group support from Kripi Malviya and David Stanton.
  • Physical and wellbeing activities like nature walks, meditation, yoga and massages.
  • Exploring Goa’s scenery, heritage, culture and arts through visits to waterfalls, beaches, historical sites, flea-markets, galleries, museums, concerts and events; to keep participants inspired throughout their stay.
  • There will be regular community activities at the center, like shopping, cooking, dining, and general socialising - there will also be periods of free time for the artists to do their own thing.
  • Open house days where we invite the participating artists to meet local artists, curators, gallerists, thinkers and doers; either at TATVA or visit them in their own environments for artistic, cultural and theoretical exchange of knowledge and experiences.
  • All participants will have the opportunity to present their work in an informal presentation at a public event at a pristine art institution in Goa during the course of the residency.
  • There will be an end of residency curated exhibition at a gallery in Goa, showcasing the residencies experiences and visual expressions by the artists. Artists are not required to present specific final works at the end of the residency; however they are encouraged to share visual documentation of their experience and process, through for example sketches, photographs or writing.

The Team:

The Residency is lead by Kripi Malviya and David Stanton, the founders and co-creators of the TATVA Center; also by Katharina Domscheit-D’souza, the founder of PEPPINA art.

Kripi Malviya is a young gifted Indian female psychologist, existentially inclined therapist, international mental health trainer and published poet; who facilities the connection and relationship between creativity and emotional wellbeing with respect, openness and vulnerability.

David Stanton is a British international senior psychotherapist, trainer and consultant with over 30 years experience in the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia; where he has helped establish and manage a number of residential and community based mental health awareness and emotional wellness services. He is dedicated to furthering emotional wellbeing through therapy and education; with a passion for working in diverse cultures.

Katharina Domscheit-D’souza is of German origin and has a BA in Art History and an MA in Arts Management and Policy. She worked extensively as a curator, agent and artist mentor within London’s art scene before she moved to Goa three years ago to establish PEPPINA art, pushing boundaries. She believes in creating emotional awareness and social change through visual art in curatorial frameworks; with the intention to contribute to a lasting discourse.
